This weekend I competed in the UPA Nationals in Columbus, Ohio.
On Saturday I handled two of my old training partners from Washington. B-Rad competed at 181 and went 617, 402, 501 and Elliot at 275 went 755, 501, 600. Both these guys are only 18 years old and are hitting huge numbers. They both are super dedicated and understand what it takes to be a champion. I expect you will be hearing a lot about these two over the next few years.
I weighted in at just under 300 after running around sat, and was back up to 303 Sunday morning.
Squats
937 – Good
1008 – Good
1052 – Miss
I had to skip my last warm-up as the first flight went so fast and so my opener of 937 was a little rough. I stayed conservative and jumped to a small pr of 1008 and it went up fairly easy. I jumped to 1052 and had difficulty setting up, I unracked the weight on my toes and had troubling sitting back, by the time I got to depth I had nothing left.
Bench
650 – Easy
710 – Good
727 – Miss
Opened with 650 as planned and jumped to 710 for a small pr but it was a grinder. I went to 727 and jacked my Viking a little too much and had to touch super low, and I couldn’t get the weight moving and told the spotters to take it.
Deadlift
710 – Good
783 – Miss
783 – Miss
Opened with a small pr in the deadlift which gave me a 2430 total which is also a pr. I decided to go o 783 as it would put me at 2500. My first attempt at it was ugly, I let the bar drift away from me before I started pulling and barely got the weight to my knees. I took it again on my last attempt and came within an inch of locking it out.
Despite setting PR’s in everything and winning the 308 class, I was a little disappointed with my performance as I know I have a lot left in me.
Huge thanks to Kenny P for putting on an awesome meet, T-Baggins for handling me, Dave and Jim @ www.elitefts.com for all their support, coaching and guidance over the last few months, and everyone else who has helped along the way.
Next stop Pro-Am in August.
